Yashtimadhu
The two predominant compounds in Yashtimadhu or licorice, licoricidin and licorisoflavan, that is very effective in inhibiting the growth of cavity-causing bacteria. Other compounds found in licorice root also prevent the growth of bacteria associated with periodontitis, an inflammatory disease that can destroy the bones, gums, and tissue that maintain teeth.
Musta
Musta is an antioxidant and helps in reducing sugar content, preventing the growth of certain bacteria, including the type that causes dental cavities.
Darvi
Darvi helps in treating gum diseases with its active constituent berberine which has potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
Ela
Ela is used to treating infections of teeth and gums. Oil of its seeds is used in the treatment of toothache. It has anti-microbial properties which work against S.mutans and C.Albicans, which are the primary pathogens of dental caries and oral candidiasis.
Lavanga (clove)
Clove is an excellent natural mouth freshener, packed with antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory compounds. The powerful antioxidant element eugenol in cloves thwarts bacteria in the mouth and the tiny twigs impart a refreshing smell treating bad breath and attain a fresh mouth.
Chukku
Chukku or ginger boosts blood circulation in the gums and stimulates the flow of saliva. The anti-inflammatory components of ginger support the healing and regeneration of irritated mucous membranes, as in the case of aphthous ulcers.
Jaatiphala
Jaatiphala helps fighting oral pathogens and has strong antibacterial properties.
Thippali
Thippali or Piperine, has anti-inflammatory, anticonvulsant and antibacterial properties. The crude extracts obtained from the fruits be used to treat oral fungal species, especially C. albicans.
Maricha
Maricha or Black Pepper is rich in minerals and vitamins like Vitamin K (a very rare mineral), Calcium, Manganese, Iron, Beta Carotene, Phosphorus, Potassium and Selenium. Black pepper oil helps in repairing the damage caused by free radicals (oxidants).
Twak
Twak or cinnamon has antibacterial properties which are used extensively in dental medicine and have been used for centuries.
Gairikam
Gairikam has high red colour attributed to the presence of iron oxide in it. Effective in removing surface deposits and dental plaque, Gairikam is a very useful herb for maintaining tooth enamel.
